There are few songs that penetrate my heart every time I hear them, like the words of Be Still and Know by Steven Curtis Chapman, based on Psalm 46:10. It’s such a simple song, with a simple message, yet it’s something I can’t ever seem to fully grasp. Some days I feel as though I’m just going through the motions of life. I’ve got a routine, I even set aside some time to spend with God–but some days I just stop and think…

Am I just living on autopilot?

Am I even listening for God’s voice throughout the day?

If your life is anything like mine, you’ve got all sorts of things screaming for your attention–from the moment your feet hit the floor in the morning until you lay down at night. And although we “make time” for God, I wonder how much of that is just out of habit than it is a longing to spend time with Him?

In the midst of our crazy, hectic, noisy lives, we have a Father who is longing for a personal relationship with each one of us. God’s been speaking to my heart lately and I believe He’s calling me to set aside some time each day to just be still and be quiet. I honestly don’t know what this looks like for me yet or what I’m supposed to do, but then again, I think that’s the point. Stop thinking. Just stop, period.
